Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point for John Darrel Thibodeaux, 73. Mr. Thibodeaux, a native and long-time resident of rural Acadia Parish near Church Point, died at 10:05 P.M. Wednesday, November 21 at his residence. Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc will conduct the services with entombment following in the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Mausoleum adjacent to the church in Mire, La.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa (Margeli) Thibodeaux of Church Point; two sons, Raymond Thibodeaux of Mire, La. and Daniel Maella and wife Irina of Houston, Tex.; a sister, Rena Wilks of Church Point; his grandchildren: Matthew, Dylan, Amber and Krista Thibodeaux and David Maella and his great-grandchildren: Hannah and Alysen Stelly and Jayda Thibodeaux.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alcee and Lydia (Jagneaux) Thibodeaux; three brothers, Kurtney, Leander and Odell Thibodeaux and a sister, Rita Tweedel.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 A.M. until 10:00 P.M. on Friday, November 23 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Saturday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday by Monsignor DeBlanc.
Pallbearers will be Raymond, Matthew, Derrick and Dexter Thibodeaux; Daniel Maella and Rodney Tweedel.
Mr. Thibodeaux was a Chief Engineer on ocean-going tugboats employed by the merchant Marine for some twenty years. He loved to fly and owned his own plane. A U.S. Army veteran of the Viet Nam Era, he will be honored with a Flag Presentation Ceremony at the time of services.
