Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 7, 2008 at First Baptist Church; Church Point, La. for John Ray Smith, 62, who died at 12:38 P.M. Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at Doctors Hospital; Opelousas, La. He was a native of Church Point. Pastor Berl Adams will conduct the services with interment following in the First Baptist Church Cemetery; Highway 35, Church Point.

Survivors include his mother, Annie Mae Babineaux Smith of Church Point; his spouse, Judy Ann Nelams Smith and two sons, Clint Paul and John Jessie Smith-all of Church Point-and a daughter, Laura Lynn Smith Morgan of Lawtell, La. He is also survived by two brothers, Joseph Ned Smith of Ragley, La. and Donald Smith of Delcambre, La.; two sisters, Clara Belle Pennartz of Ragley, La. and Barbara Ann Fontenot of Swords, La. and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Neston Smith and a son, Michael Shane Smith.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed beginning 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 6 and continuing without interruption until time of services on Thursday.
A Building Contractor for many years, Mr. Smith was a partner in the firm of Nelams and Smith Builders, Inc.
