Church Point, LA:         A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, June 24, 2022 at St. John Berchmans Catholic Church in Cankton, LA for John Elwood "Toot" Richard, 77. Mr. Richard, a lifetime resident of rural St. Landry Parish near Church Point, LA, passed away Wednesday morning, June 22 at his residence. Rev. Father Ken Domingue, pastor of the church, will be the celebrant of the Mass and interment will be in the St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Cemetery on Ontario Street in Duson, LA.

He is survived by his wife, Lurleen Nero Richard of Church Point; a son, Phillip Richard and wife Reneé of Church Point; two daughters, Brandi Richard of Church Point and Monique Savoy and husband Corey of Richard, LA; two sisters, Elena Doucet of Opelousas, LA and Mona Barton of Lafayette, LA and his grandchildren: Christian, Damien and Sara Deshotel and Brie Savoy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Hilda Richard; a son, Michael John Richard; a brother, James Richard and a brother-in-law, Gerald Doucet.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 23 and continue from 8:00 AM Friday until the time of services. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 7:00 PM Thursday in French by Mr. John Dale Richard. An electrician and maintenance supervisor at the Lafayette Regional Airport for a number of years, Mr. Richard was a member of the Knights of Columbus and an usher at St. John Berchmans Church for many years. A U.S. Navy veteran of the "Cuban Missile Crisis" and life-long member of VFW Post 9903, he will be honored with a Flag Presentation and Honors by the combined Honor Guard at the time of services. Guidry Funeral Home, 219 N. Broadway St., Church Point, LA is in charge of final arrangements.
