"Poppa" Thibodeaux

Church Point, LA: Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, March 7, 2020 at the St. John Catholic Chapel in Lewisburg, LA for John Huey "Poppa" Thibodeaux, born December 31, 1944. Mr. Thibodeaux, the seventh child of the late Drozen and Elvina Jagneaux Thibodeaux and a native and long-time resident of Lewisburg, died Wednesday evening, March 4 at Acadia-St. Landry Guest Home in Church Point, LA. "Pere" David Rozas will conduct the services with interment following in the St. John Cemetery adjacent to the church. The family requested that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 12:00 Noon until 9:00 P.M. Friday, March 6 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Saturday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held there at 7:00 P.M. Friday by Deacon Bryne Winn. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. John Chapel C/O Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Church Point. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Mary Guilbeaux of Lewisburg, who he married on June 4, 1966; their three daughters, Stephanie East and Pam Hargroder and husband Jeremy-all of Opelousas, LA-and Michele Thibodeaux and spouse Lessle of Arnaudville, LA; his "pride and joy" (his grandchildren and great-granddaughters): Austin, Jacob, Gabrielle and Joshua Coussan; Allison Faust and husband Sid; Bethany Bakeman and husband Jordan; Brittany, Rebekah and Cody East; Jake Skelton; his "l'il peanuts", Lorelai "Lala" Jane Faust and Evelyn Kaye Adams and, not to be forgotten, all the kids that Huey and Gertrude baby-sat in their home who know him as their "Poppa". A simple man who didn't require much in life, Mr. Thibodeaux operated heavy road-building equipment for TL James and H&S Construction for most of his life. He absolutely loved to make people laugh, was a great cook, enjoyed "a good barbeque and a few Miller Ponies" and "burned up" the dance floor at "Bourque's Club" and "La Poussiere" as often as he and Gertrude could.
