Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, La. for John Leston Guidry. Mr. Guidry, a native of Church Point and long-time resident of Metairie, La., passed away on Saturday, March 2. Father Mitchell Guidry will conduct the services with interment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery adjacent to the Church. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend a Memorial Service beginning at 10:00 A.M. followed by Noon Mass at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Metairie on Friday, March 8.
Survivors include his four loving children: Natalie, John and wife Kelly, Diana and Lance Guidry and his two loving grandchildren, Bailey and Vincent Guidry-all of Metairie. He is also survived by his brother, Earlin and wife Betty Guidry of Church Point; three sisters: Velma LeJeune and husband John B. of Eunice, La., Annie Hollier of Houma, La. and Mary Loise Hidalgo and husband Lynwood of Opelousas and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Dora (Jeanise) Guidry; his brothers, Lee and Aurel Guidry; a sister-in-law, Gladys (Thibodeaux) Guidry and a brother-in-law, Louis Hollier.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 10:00 A.M. Thursday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held prior to Mass by Father Guidry.
"Mr. Guidry is a graduate of Church Point High School and the University of Southwestern Louisiana at Lafayette (now ULL). He worked his entire forty-plus year career in the oil and gas industry, beginning with summer jobs through High School and College, to his first engineering position with Gulf Oil. He retired in 2012 with over twenty-nine years of dedicated service with the former Minerals Management Service in New Orleans. Mr. Guidry was an active parishioner of St. Edward The Confessor Catholic Church in Metairie where he served as an usher for many years."
