Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at St. Leo Catholic Church in Robert's Cove, La., for John Clyde Leger, 90. Mr. Leger, a native and life-long resident of Branch, La., died at 1:12 A.M. Sunday, December 29 at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette, La. Father Mitchell Guidry will conduct the services with interment following in the St. Leo Cemetery in Roberts Cove, La.
Survivors include a son, Keith Leger and wife Diana; a daughter, Monique Leger and a sister, Verdia L.Venable-all of Branch; a daughter-in-law, Gwen Leger of Church Point; eleven grandchildren: Leslie Van Kerkhove; Ron, Hannah, Bethany, Spencer, Derrick and Madison Leger; Angelique Barrow; Blair Langlois and Erika and Konnlie Leonards as well as thirteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Evay (Thibodeaux) Leger; his wife, Antonia (Dischler) Leger; a brother, Dewey Leger; two sons, Darrell and Gerard Leger; a daughter, Cathalina Leger and a grandson, Quentin Leger.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 A.M. until 10:00 P.M. on Monday, December 30 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Tuesday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Monday.
Mr. Leger was a U.S. Army veteran of the European Theater in WWII where he was decorated with the Purple Heart for wounds received in action October 10, 1944. Upon his return from active duty, he resumed cotton, sweet potato, soybean and cattle farming on the family farm where he remained active in the farming operations until 2008. Mr. Leger was a member of Acadia Parish Drainage District #1, Ward II and had served as the District President since 1991.
He will be honored with a Flag Presentation Ceremony at the time of services.
