Church Point, LA A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 15. 2017 at Guidry Funeral Home in Church Point, LA for John Jessie Smith, 48. There will be visitation at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the services. Pastor Berl Adams will conduct the services with interment following in the First Baptist Cemetery on Hwy 35 north of Church Point.
Mr. Smith, a native and long-time resident of rural St. Landry Parish near Church Point, died Thursday morning, November 2 in Lafayette, LA.

Survivors include his mother, Judy Nelams Smith of Church Point; his grandmother, Anna Mae Babineaux of Eunice, LA; a brother and sister, Clint Paul Smith and Laura Smith-both of Church Point and two nephews, Cory-Michael Morgan and Allen James Soileau. He was preceded in death by his father, John Ray Smith; a brother, Michael Shane Smith; his maternal grandparents, Jessie and Eldine Carriere Nelams; his paternal grandfather, Neston Smith and his uncle, Henry Lee "Buck" Nelams.

Mr. Smith was a carpenter for a number of years and competed as a member of the Cajun Country Boxers.
