Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 11, 2013 at Our Lady of the Sacred heart Catholic Church for John Leonard Franchebois, 63. Mr. Franchebois, a native of Opelousas, La. and long-time resident of rural St. Landry Parish near Church Point, died at 3:32 P.M. Wednesday, October 9 at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette, La. Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc will conduct the services with interment following in Bellevue Memorial Cemetery south of Opelousas.
Survivors include his former spouse of thirty-two years, Linda Darbonne Franchebois of Church Point; his sisters, Mona Barousse and husband Victor of River Ridge, La., Sydney Lee Robert and husband James of Opelousas and Michelle Woodruff and husband Mike of Youngsville, La.; two aunts, Valrie G. Cormier of Church Point and Eldine Colligan of Baton Rouge and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Litaire ("J.L.") and Jeanette Guidry Franchebois of Opelousas; his maternal grandparents, Eddie and Ethel Lafleur Guidry of Church Point and paternal grandparents, Sidney and Josephine Labbe Franchebois of Lewisburg, La.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 11:00 A.M. Friday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 1:15 P.M. by Monsignor Deblanc.
John, a 1968 graduate of Opelousas High School, was a U.S. Army veteran of the Viet Nam War. He will be honored with a Flag Presentation Ceremony at the time of services.
