Obituary

Church Point, LA: A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Guidry Funeral Home in Church Point, LA for John Earl “Poochie Venable, 71. Mr. Venable, a native of Church Point, died Saturday evening, September 5 at The Ellington Guest Home in Rayne, LA. Visitation will be held at Guidry Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until the time of the Service. A Rosary will be recited at 12:45 PM by Deacon Byrne Winn who will also conduct the Service. Interment will be at a later date

He is survived by his three daughters, Monique Venable of Youngsville, Kristie Venable of Lafayette and Johnett Boutin and husband Daniel of Youngsville; one son, Shane Venable and his wife, Amber, of Scott; nine grandchildren, Brennon Bergeaux, Alyssa Bergeaux Mann and husband Blair, Shailyn Brown, Shane Brown Jr., Kiersten Boutin, Kayleigh Boutin, Traelon Boutin, Autumn Ned and Brantley Venable; nine great-grandchildren, Landon Bergeaux, Levi Anthony-Ray Mann, Lincoln Cole Mann, Emerie Estelle Mann, Da’shai Andrus, Da’lilah Andrus, Kehlani Boudreaux, Kaizer Boudreaux and Lakelyn Roy “on the way”; one sister, Brenda Doucet and husband, Michael, of Church Point; two brothers, Gary Venable and wife Lisa and James Ray Venable and wife Peggy, all of Church Point; a special aunt, Priscilla Chachere; his best friend, Stephen Morrow and wife Sharon; a son-in-law, Shane Brown, Sr. and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norris and Rita Bernard Venable.

A tool pusher in “the oilfield” for a number of years; Mr. Venable was a loving father, grandfather and sibling. Truly loved, he will be missed by his extended family and all who knew him.
