Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point for Joe Warren Cormier, 62. Mr. Cormier died at 8:10 AM Monday, October 8, at Opelousas General Hospital in Opelousas. He was a native of Church Point and a long time resident of Zachary, La. Father Jeff Bayhi will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Monsignor C.A. Bienvenu Cemetery in Church Point.
Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Amanda Benoit Cormier of Zachary, La; his mother, Dorothy Martinez Cormier of Church Point; one daughter, Stephanie Cormier Guidry of Cut-Off, La.; three grandsons: Garrett, Peyton and Luke Guidry- all of Cut-off; one brother, Michael Cormier and wife Jane and a niece, Kimberly Turner- all of Church Point.
He was preceded in death by his father, R. S. Cormier and a nephew, Dustin Cormier- both of Church Point.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from10:00 A.M. until 10:00 PM on Tuesday, October 9 and continue at 8:00 AM on Wednesday until time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday.
A U.S. Army (Viet Nam Era) veteran, Mr. Cormier was an employee of Exxon Mobil- Baton Rouge, La. for over 40 years and a member of Local 216, International Union of Operating Engineers. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Zachary and a member of the Men's Club of Zachary for over 30 years. A songwriter and Cajun musician, Mr. Cormier was a member of the Cajun French Music Association, Baton Rouge chapter.
