Church Point, LA:     Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Jean Norman, 85, the former Jean Francis Doucet. Mrs. Norman, a native and long-time resident of Church Point, died Sunday morning, October 16 at her daughter's residence in Lawtell, LA. Rev. Father Brian Harrington, pastor of the church, will conduct the services with interment following in the OLSH Cemetery on Hwy 35. Survivors include her son, Johnathan Murphy and wife Jill of Church Point; her daughters: Bridget Boudreaux and companion David Theriot of Church Point, Roxane Bourgeois and husband Michael of Lawtell, LA and Stacey Priestner and husband Roger of Zachary, LA; a brother, Robert Doucet and wife Aline of Iota, LA; her grandchildren: Laci Doucet and husband Nick, Jean-Paul Boudreaux and wife Haley, Michael Bourgeois II and wife Lauren, Candace Romero and husband Chris, Sydney Lacombe and husband Jeremiah, Meghan Elkins and fiancé Khris, Ashleigh Elkins and companion Sean and Kylie Murphy; her great-grandchildren: Leah, Collin and J'Lynn Boudreaux; Emma, Carly and Mason Doucet; Hewson and Amelia Bourgeois and Chase Romero and a great-great-grandchild, Blakely Kate Meche. She was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Iris Guidry Doucet; the "father of her children", Winson Murphy; her 2 nd husband, Tom Norman; a brother, Charles Ray Doucet and a sister, Charlene Gautreaux. The family requested that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM on Wednesday, October 19 and continue from 8:00 AM Thursday until the time of services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held there at 7:00 PM Thursday by her son, Johnathan Murphy. Pallbearers will be Michael Bourgeois, Michael Bourgeois II, David Theriot, Roger Priestner, Nick Doucet, Khris Augustus, Jeremiah Lacombe and Chris Romero. A hard-working, energetic and loving citizen of Church Point; Mrs. Norman was employed by Acadia-St. Landry Hospital for many years after she was a "Blue Lady" there when it first opened. A "fabric artist", she and her husband Tom operated "Le Vieux Moulin" where they made unique Mardi Gras costumes and masks sold in the U.S., Canada and Europe. A self-taught French Gospel singer songwriter; she sang at weddings, funerals and special occasions, recorded several tapes and CD's and was in the French Choir directed by Glen Faul. Mrs. Norman helped organize and was on the board of the "Buggy Festival", was the 1 st woman Parade Marshal, was a Buggy Festival Queen, organized a live radio show along with "Teasie " Cary and the "Cajun Ladies" to raise money for the establishment of "Le Vieux Presbytère", organized a community "Christmas Memorial Service" where the Christmas tree was adorned with ornaments in remembrance of loved ones and was instrumental in having local artist Tony Wimberly paint the murals on the Farmers State Bank and Church Point Bank buildings. She was Citizen of the Year, Acadia-St. Landry Hospital Employee of the Year, won a Woman French Singer award, a Senior Citizen Cajun Music Award and she and Tom won a waltz contest. In pursuing her greatest love-the protection of the "Cajun" culture for future generations-she was interviewed by a radio station in Church Point, Canada and lectured in French at a college there.
