Church Point, LA:     Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for James Gerard "Deacon Jim" Cormier, 69. Deacon Jim, a native and long-time resident of Church Point, died early Thursday morning , December 26 at his residence. Father Hampton Davis will conduct the services with interment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery adjacent to the church. Survivors include his mother, Ella Belle Guidry Cormier of Church Point; his wife, Twila Lavergne Cormier; two sons, Jeffery James Cormier and wife Becky of Lafayette, LA and David Williams Cormier and wife Brandy of Church Point; three daughters, Jenny Cormier of Lafayette and Sarah Cormier and Sarah Carriere and husband David-all of Church Point; a brother, Willie "Lulu" Cormier and wife Deborah of Church Point and twelve grandchildren: Zachary Johnson, Monét Cormier, Morgan and Hayden Carriere, Blaise and Ella Cormier, Blair Carriere, Dawson and Livi Cormier, Macie Carriere and Jean-Paul and Elaine Cormier. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Cormier and a granddaughter, Gemma Rose Cormier. The family requested that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 11:00 A.M. until 10:00 P.M. Friday, December 27 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Saturday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held there at 7:00 P.M. Friday by Deacon Bryne Winn. Ordained in 2000, Deacon Jim served Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church for a number of years and currently served Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Duralde, LA. Dearly loved by his family and devoted to his ministry, he will be sadly missed by his friends and associates. Arrangements are being handled by Guidry Funeral Home, Inc.; 219 N.
