Obituary

James "Jim" Bordelon, 89, passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2025, in Church Point, Louisiana. Born on September 23, 1935, in Eunice, Louisiana, Jim lived a life defined by kindness, generosity, and an unwavering love for his family and community. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 18, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a gathering after the Mass at 501 S. David Street, Church Point, LA 70525

Jim proudly served in the United States Navy before dedicating his career to education. As a high school math teacher at Church Point High School for many years, he inspired countless students with his encouragement and quiet kindness. His belief in hard work and perseverance left a lasting impact on those he taught, always reminding his children and students alike that they could achieve anything with effort and determination.

A devoted husband, Jim shared 64 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Mary Ellen Gardiner Bordelon. Together, they built a loving family that brought him immense joy. He was a proud father to Michelle Bordelon Lafleur (Winford Lafleur), David Bordelon (Vicki Bordelon), Kristina Mackenzie (David Sheets), Deborah Bordelon, Sara Bordelon (Francisco Coelho), and Michael Bordelon (Josmara Bordelon). His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren—Nicholas, Alex, Ian, Aden, Brooke, Olivia, Logan, Mazlan, and Kaivan—as well as his great-grandchildren Foster and Francis. He is also survived by his two sisters, Betty and Mary Bordelon.

Jim was an active member of the Catholic Church and attended mass at many local churches throughout his life. His faith was an integral part of who he was and guided him in all that he did. Whether tending to his yard, caring for his animals, reading a good book, or staying active through exercise, Jim found joy in life's simple pleasures.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Avit and Jimmie Bordelon; and his sisters Geraldine Berthelot and Thelma Brand. Though he will be deeply missed by those who knew him, the love he shared and the wisdom he imparted will live on in the hearts of many.

Jim's presence in the community was one of quiet strength and warmth. He never met a person he didn't like and was well-loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As a husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and friend, he leaves behind a legacy of love and inspiration.
