Church Point, LA: Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Jack Gervais Thibodeaux, 88. Mr. Thibodeaux, a native and long-time resident of rural St. Landry Parish near Church Point, died Saturday morning, June 9 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Reverend Father Gene Tremie, nephew of the deceased, will serve as Celebrant for the Mass with Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc, Pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, as Con-celebrant. Singer-organist Sharee Hunter will perform at the Mass with Judy Thibodeaux and Charmaine Dupre as lectors. Pallbearers will be Henry Dupre, Jason Smith, Troy and Ricky Thibodeaux, Patrick Meagher, and Jason Picard. Entombment will follow in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum on Hwy 35 north of Church Point. A Korean War veteran, he will be honored with a Flag Presentation Ceremony at the time of services. The family requested that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 4:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M on Wednesday, June 13 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Thursday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held there at 7:30 P.M. Wednesday by Theo Domingue. Survivors include his wife, Nettie Veillon Thibodeaux and six children: Charmaine Dupre and husband Henry of Ville Platte, La, Jackie Kimball and husband John and June Picard and husband Jason-all of Lafayette, LA, Ricky Thibodeaux and wife Stephanie of League City, TX, Annette Meagher and husband Patrick of Marietta, GA and Carla Madere and husband Brett of Reserve, LA; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. The youngest and last surviving member of his large family, he was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Alice Thibodeaux of Church Point and 12 siblings. Jack was devoted to his family and enjoyed sharing with them the harvest of his garden, barbeques at his home and building furniture and "nic-nacs" for them. After serving in the Navy and Air Force during the Korean War, he worked his whole career at Canal Refining Company in Church Point. A long-time member of the American Legion, an usher at St. John Chapel in Lewisburg and a member of the Bellevue Water Board for several years; he is remembered by family and friends for his joking character and will be deeply missed by all. The family wishes to thank all of the staff of Courtyard Retirement home in Lafayette for the wonderful care they gave him over the last three years.
