Church Point, LA Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Irene Jeanise, 97, the former Irene Briscoe. Mrs. Jeanise, a native of Church Point and currently a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, died Sunday morning, December 24 at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc will conduct the services with interment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Hwy 35 north of Church Point. Her survivors include Cindy and Steve Fontenot of Youngsville, LA who were her caretakers and those she was especially close to; numerous nieces and nephews that she thought of as her children; a brother, Shelery Briscoe and wife Ann of Gonzales, LA and two sisters, Rita Fontenot of Walker, La and Bonnie Coleman and husband John of Sulphur, LA. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Jeanise; her parents, William and Louise Sonnier Briscoe and four sisters, Elta Dupre, Rena Labbie, Ida Soileau and Verdie Briscoe. The family requested that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 9:00 A.M. Wednesday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held there at 2:00 P.M. Mrs. Jeanise worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Church Point, retiring in 1984 after some twenty-two years. Quite active in her younger days, she traveled in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Mexico, most often with then-pastor Monsignor Bienvenu of OLSH; she was the oldest surviving member of the local Catholic Daughters of America Council and she was an avid collector of items as diverse as coins, bells, rosaries and the infamous "$2 Bills" she gave to loved ones on birthdays and at Christmas. Mrs. Jeanise will be best remembered for her passion for "Bingo". A frequent visitor to the Metro Bingo Hall in Lafayette, LA, she was known as "Mom" and was considered the "Bingo Queen". Her loved ones will always consider her the patron of their family.
