Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, La. for Gurvis Joseph Leger, 72. Mr. Leger, a native and long-time resident of Church Point, died Friday evening, May 23at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital in Church Point. Monsignor Jefferson J. De Blanc will conduct the services with interment following in the Monsignor Bienvenu Cemetery on Highway 35 north of Church Point.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Linda Joubert and husband Donald "Chaoui" Joubert of Church Point; a son, Terry Leger and wife Dana of Church Point; a brother, Kenneth Leger of Maurice, La.; six grandchildren: Colby, Jon Paul and Justin Leger, Alyda "Faith" Sattler, Tiffany Olivier and Megan Briscoe; nine great-grandchildren and numerous foster children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmo and Lorraine (Doucet) Leger; his wife, Velma L. Leger, a sister, Clara Leger; two daughters, Patricia Leger and Cindy Sattler; a grandson, Seth Savant and a granddaughter, Chasity Guidry.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 11:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Monday, May 26 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Tuesday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. Monday by Monsignor DeBlanc. Pallbearers will be Colby, Justin, Jon Paul, Elliot, Brian, and Kenneth Leger.

After retiring as a chef at Freeport McMoran's Gulf properties, Mr. Leger drove for Acme Truck Lines for more than twenty years until retirement there. He loved woodworking, telling jokes, yard work and raising animals.

The family wishes to thank the first responders, Church Point Police, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Brasseaux, Kenneth Jagneaux and Roland Lejeune for their care and support.
