Church Point, LA: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Gladys Savoie, 90, the former Mary Gladys Guidry. Mrs. Savoie, a native and lifetime resident of Church Point, passed away Wednesday evening, January 5 at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice, LA. Rev. Father Mitchell Guidry, her nephew, will be the celebrant of the Mass and interment will be in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Hwy 35 north of Church Point.
She is survived by her sons, Raymond Savoie and wife Stephanie of Livonia, LA and Donald Savoie and wife Becky of Baton Rouge, LA; her daughters, Mildred Johnson and husband Kelly of Metairie, LA and Linda Carmello of Church Point; a brother, Paul Guidry of Baton Rouge; seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Savoie; her parents, Noah and Evelina Richard Guidry; an infant son, Joseph Savoie; a great-grandson, London Carmello; two brothers, Bernice Guidry and Howard "Blue" Guidry and a sister, Bernadine Guidry. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM on Friday, January 7 and continue from 8:00 AM Saturday until the time of services. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 7:00 PM Friday by Deacon Byrne Winn. A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother; she held a special devotion to the Blessed Mother of Jesus and was an inspiration of faithfulness to God to her family and all who knew her. She and her husband owned and operated Savoie's Grocery, also known as "The 1
st
and Last Chance Grocery", for many years at the present site of Vautrot's Mini Mart. Retired after many years of dedicated service as Kitchen Supervisor at Acadia-St. Landry Guest Home; Mrs. Savoie was also a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a past "Cajun Queen". The family wishes to thank the staffs of the guest home and hospital in Church Point and the medical center in Eunice for their compassionate care during their mother's final years and days.
