Obituary

Church Point, LA:    A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church for Mrs. Ginevra Ann LeBleu Thibodeaux Elkins, 89, who passed away at 1:39 AM September 12 at Acadia-St. Landy Guest Home. Fr. Michael Vidrine, Parochial Vicar of the Church, will be the Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the Burial Rite in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum adjacent to the church.

On August 19, 1936, a baby girl opened her eyes for the first time in Peach Bloom, an almost-forgotten farming community a couple of miles south of Church Point. Ginevra Ann LeBleu was the first-born child of LeRoy LeBleu and Leota Daugereaux. Eighty-nine years later, she closed her eyes a final time on September 12, 2025 in Church Point.

Ginevra was the definition of an extrovert; she loved people. She once answered a "wrong number" call and ended up talking to the stranger for a half an hour. Her love of travel was not about seeing new things, it was about meeting new people. Strangers who sat next to her in an airplane often turned into life-long friends. She married Auburn Thibodeaux in 1954 and together they produced six children within ten years. She claimed to be a country girl at heart, getting her husband to move her and the kids to 20 acres outside of town. She also told him that she never wanted a "lazy-person's" electric dishwasher (though she got over that pronouncement quickly). In 1986, she tragically became a young widow after thirty-two years of marriage. She ended her widowhood in 2003 by marrying a second time to Shirley Elkins. This union has endured for twenty-two years.

She is survived by her second husband, Shirley Elkins and four of her six children: Toni España of Lafayette; Gene Thibodeaux (and wife Karen) of Church Point; Bret Thibodeaux (and wife Bella) of Kaplan; and Glen Thibodeaux of Alabama. Ginevra was the grandmother of fourteen: Raquel Richard, Lindsey Daigle, Lauren Miller and Amanda Meche, all of Church Point; Dylan Haight and Max Thibodeaux of Wisconsin; Dr. Benjamin Thibodeaux of Breaux Bridge; Tiffany Schoonover of Marksville; Gene Thibodeaux II of Lafayette; Cadi Thibodeaux of Arnaudville; Jeremy Richard of Beaumont, TX; Dr. Alex David of Corpus Christi, TX; Marco España of Washington State and Dr. Emily Gonzalez of Singapore. Fourteen great-grandchildren also mourn her passing: Lane Richard, Nick Richard, Wyatt Daigle, Avery Daigle and Parker Thibodeaux, all of Church Point; Ava and Eli Thibodeaux of Breaux Bridge; Tanner and Jack Schoonover of Marksville; Winnie and Auburn Thibodeaux of Arnaudville; Cassidy and Kennedy Richard of Beaumont and Ian Haight of Wisconsin. Ginevra is also survived by two sisters, Ida Gayle Richard of Church Point and Peggy Hebert of Lafayette. Four step-children also mourn her passing, Ken and Johnny Elkins, Debbie Young and Lisa Leger.

Ginevra was preceded in death by parents, LeRoy LeBleu and Leota Daugereaux, her first husband, Auburn Thibodeaux and her brother, Rusty LeBleu. Sadly, she outlived two of her children, Bart Thibodeaux and Elena David.
She was a lady of many names. Ginevra was named after her maternal grandmother, but it seems she rarely went by her official name. When a younger sibling attempted to call her "Sister" she became forever known to her parents, siblings, uncles, aunts and cousins as "Titta." Her first husband called her "Sug," short for sugar. Her children called her "Mama," of course, and her first grandchild had trouble saying "Mom Ginevra"; it came out as "Mom Never", a name that stuck for the other grandchildren. Her second husband's family called her "Mary." By whatever name they addressed her as, many will be saddened by her passing.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home on Monday, September 15, from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and continue on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until the time of the Services.
