Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point for Joseph Gervais Lyons, 89. Mr. Lyons, a native and life-long resident of Church Point, died at 8:30 A.M. Sunday, February 26 at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice, La. Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc will conduct the services with entombment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum on Highway 35 north of Church Point.
Survivors include two sons, Aaron Lyons and wife Karen and Michael Savoy and wife Clara-all of Church Point; a daughter, Patricia Richard and husband "J.C." of Church Point; a brother, Carol Lyons of Church Point; sixteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eve (Castille) Lyons and his second wife, Leola (Savoy) Lyons; a stepson, Wilson Savoy, Jr.; his parents, Clifford and Ella (Jagneaux) Lyons; five brothers and three sisters.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 28 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Wednesday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday.
Mr. Lyons was retired, having owned and managed Lyons Feed Mill from 1955 until 1984. A U.S. Army veteran of WWII, a recipient of the Purple Heart and a member of American Legion Post 225 and VFW Post 9903 in Church Point; he will be honored with a Flag Presentation Ceremony at the time of services.
