Church Point, LA Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 31, 2017 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Gervais Lavergne, 89. Mr. Lavergne, a native and long-time resident of Church Point, died Friday morning, July 28 at his residence. Father David Rozas will conduct the services with interment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery adjacent to the church. Survivors include a son, Michael Louis Lavergne and wife Dorothy of Lafayette, LA; four daughters: Mary Oakley and husband Ronald of Church Point, LA, Priscilla Borne and husband Randy of Belle Chasse, LA, Sharlene Lavergne and husband Kenneth of Covington, GA and Sue Lopez and husband William of New Iberia, LA; ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Pierre and Adolphina Boudreaux Lavergne; his wife, Anna Belle Meche Lavergne and a daughter, Linda Lavergne. The family requested that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the services on Monday. A recitation of the Rosary will be held there at 10:30 A.M. by Father Rozas. The family wishes to thank the staff of Heart of Hospice for their compassionate care and wishes special thanks to his devoted caregivers, Dot Nelams, Diane Smith, Jeanne Carroll and Connie Hollier. Mr. Lavergne was an operator at Canal Refining Co. for many years. A guitar player, he loved to play with the other musicians at Savoy's in Eunice, LA; appearing with them at Jazz Fest in New Orleans. As a U.S. Army veteran of the WWII Era, Mr. Lavergne will be honored with a Flag Presentation Ceremony at the time of services.
