Church Point, LA:         A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, June 10, 2022 at St. Edward Catholic Church in Richard, LA for Gerald James Vanicor, 76. Mr. Vanicor, a native and long-time resident of rural Acadia Parish near Richard, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday afternoon, June 7 at Opelousas General Hospital in Opelousas, LA. Rev. Father Kory Lavergne, pastor of the church, will be the celebrant of the Mass and interment will be at a time and date to be determined by family.

He is survived by his wife, Karlynn Fontenot Vanicor of Richard; his son, Shane Vanicor of Church Point, LA; his daughters, Vanessa Vanicor and fiancé John Bonner of Church Point and Angela Godeaux and husband Donald of Richard, LA; a brother, Randy Vanicor and wife Stefani of Youngsville, LA; his grandchildren: Kristen, Hayden and spouse Candace, Ciara and spouse Lex, Mitchell, Melina and fiancé Matt, Austin, Nicholas and fianceé Shelbie, Ryan, Jonathan, Emmie, Samuel and Annalise; eleven great-grandchildren and his extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Eldine Olivier Vanicor; two grandchildren, Ashton and Lainey Godeaux and a great-grandchild, "Baby Girl" Miller.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 9. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM Thursday by Donald Godeaux. There will be a private viewing by Family on Friday before leaving for the services. The family wishes to thank Father Lavergne and the staff of Opelousas General for the care they provided and, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Hospital. A LA Army National Guard veteran, Mr. Vanicor will be honored with a Flag Presentation Ceremony on Friday. Guidry Funeral Home, 219 N. Broadway St., Church Point, LA is in charge of final arrangements.
