March 30, 1958 – February 12, 2024
Church Point, LA: A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Our Lady of The Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Mr. Gerald Colligan, 65, who passed away at 3:52 AM Monday, February 12, at his residence. Fr. Brian Harrington, Pastor of the Church, will be the Celebrant of the Mass with entombment following immediately after in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum on Hwy. 35.
Gerald, a life-long resident of Church Point, was the son of the late Nolton Colligan and the former Beulah Kennerson. He was a good man in every way possible who loved his family and friends dearly and would do anything for them. He was a dedicated member of the American Legion Post 225 as well as the Sons of the American Legion Riders 225, serving as 2nd Vice-President. Gerald also served faithfully on the Honor Guard. Gerald was a huge LSU Baseball & Football fan. He also enjoyed motorcycle riding, local and cross country. He was able to see all lower 48 states on his travels. He especially enjoyed nature, wildlife and scenery along these trips and capturing these in photos. He was strong in his faith and was an inspiration to all who knew him. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jeannine F. Colligan of Church Point; one daughter, Mary Kate Colligan of Church Point; one son, Jordan Colligan of Lafayette, LA; his mother, Beulah Colligan of Church Point; three sisters, Monica Vidrine and husband John and Connie Hidalgo and husband Raymond-all of Prairieville, LA-and Delores Turner of Eunice, LA; two brothers, James Colligan of Church Point and David Colligan of Eunice; his sisters-in-law, Stephanie Richardson of Lafayette, Rebecca Eldridge and husband Ryan of Richardson, TX and Vanessa Vernon and husband Zach of Golden, CO; his brother-in-law, Warren Fuselier of Houston, TX; his godchildren, Tricia Noel of Leonville, LA, Julie Bruno of Prairieville and Allyson Bayard of Youngsville, LA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Nolton Colligan; his infant son, David Colligan; one sister, Mona Barron and an infant brother.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home on Saturday, February 17, from 9:00 AM until the time of the Memorial Mass. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 12:15 PM prior to leaving for church. Memorial contributions may be made in Gerald's name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503 or hospiceacadiana.com/donate.
