Church Point, LA Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, September 1, 2017 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Frank Joseph Melancon, Sr., 90. Mr. Melancon, a native of Bosco, LA and long-time resident of rural St. Landry Parish near Lewisburg, LA, died Sunday, August 27 at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings, LA. Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc will conduct the services with entombment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum adjacent to the church. Survivors include two sons, Frank Melancon, Jr. and companion Jerri Lanclos of Church Point and Tim Melancon and fiancée Monica Lau of Sunset, LA; a daughter, Mary Linda "Pappy" Melancon and husband Harlan Blake of Alto, NM; twenty grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Moise and Verly Guidry Melancon; his wife, Anna Lou Knott Melancon; four sons, Earl, Michael, Terry and Jimmy Melancon and a daughter, Geraldine Melancon Bearb. The family requested that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until 10:00 PM on Thursday, August 31 and continue from 8:00 AM Friday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held there at 7:00 PM Thursday by Monsignor DeBlanc. Pallbearers will be Tim and Brad Melancon, Earl Melancon, Jr., Josh Livingston, Chase Blake and Frank Melancon, Jr. A US Coast Guard-Merchant Marine veteran of the WWII Era, Mr. Melancon was a long-time, well-known farmer in this area. He will be honored with a Flag Presentation Ceremony at the time of services.
