Church Point, La. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Guidry Funeral Home in Church Point, La. for Florence Ione "Flo" Roberts, RN, 56. Ms. Roberts, a native and long-time resident of Church Point, died on Wednesday, April 1st at Acadia-St. Landry Guest Home in Church Point. Father Stephen Ugwu will conduct the services with interment to be determined later by family.
"Flo", the daughter of Coach Jim Roberts and the late Mrs. Wanda (Ballard) Roberts, was an honor graduate of Church Point High School-Class of '76. Graduating from Northwestern State University's School of Nursing in 1981, "Flo" began her nursing career as a Neonatal Intensive Care and Air Transport Nurse at Schumpert Hospital in Shreveport, serving for some twelve years. Later, in Lexington, KY, she served for about ten years as a Private Duty Nurse for children with special needs. Over and over again, "Flo" showed her love for the tiniest, the sickest and the most vulnerable of children. She also worked at a Brood Mare Farm in Kentucky where she gained a special appreciation and love for horses.
Left to cherish her memory are her father, Coach Roberts; her siblings, Debbie Roberts, Cliff Roberts, David and Debbie Reed and Mark and Jennifer Reed and her dear nieces and nephews. Aunt Billie Ruth (Ballard) Gaskill, wife of Lorenzo Gaskill, is her only surviving aunt. Preceding "Flo" in death were her mother, Wanda Roberts and a brother, Douglas Reed.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 9:00 A.M. Saturday until the time of the services.
An avid runner and passionate golfer, "Flo" loved the outdoors. Her "green thumb" was evident in her plants and garden wherever she lived and she loved the Saints, LSU Football and Louisville Cardinals Basketball.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in her name to Acadia Parish Animal Shelter, West Highway 90, Crowley, La. 70526, would be greatly appreciated.
