Church Point, LA:         A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday, October 28, 2021 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Eddie Matte, Jr. 77. Mr. Matte, a native and lifetime resident of Church Point, passed away Tuesday morning, October 26 at his residence. Father Brian Harrington, pastor of the church, will be the celebrant of the Mass and entombment will be in the Monsignor Bienvenu Mausoleum on Hwy 35 north of Church Point.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Daigle Matte of Church Point; a son, Dustin Matte and wife Renee of Church Point; his daughters, Laura Matte and husband Gary of Rayne, LA and Emily Richard and husband Scott of Richard, LA; a sister, Judy Cormier of Church Point, LA; his grandchildren: Cainen, Blair and Benjamin Matte; Caelon Thibodeaux and Addison, Annsley and Ashtyn "Cho" Richard and his great-grandchildren: Jaxon Thibodeaux, Juddson Higginbotham and Ember and Evanlee Matte. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie Matte, Sr. and Marie Carriere Matte; a son, Shane Matte; a sister, Ann Stanford and two brothers-in-law, George Cormier and Eddie Stanford.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM on Wednesday, October 27 and continue from 8:00 AM Thursday until the time of services. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 7:00 PM Wednesday by Deacon Doug Wimberly. Pallbearers will be Dustin, Gary and Cainen Matte; Scott Richard, Zach Higginbotham and Caelon Thibodeaux. Benjamin Matte will be an honorary pallbearer. Mr. Matte, a self-employed carpenter for a number of years, was a devoted family man who loved to hunt and cook. He will be missed by his extended family and friends. Guidry Funeral Home, 219 N. Broadway St., Church Point, LA is in charge of final arrangements.
