Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, La. for Eurdley Joseph Olivier, 76. Mr. Olivier, a native and life-long resident of Church Point, died at 1:07 P.M. Friday, February 3 at Opelousas General Hospital in Opelousas, La. Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc will conduct the services with interment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Church Point.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley (Miller) Olivier of Church Point; a son, Kurt Olivier and partner Patrick Balzer of Columbia, S.C.; two daughters, Charmaine Guidry and husband Tommy of Katy, Tex, and Wanda Kay Schmitz and husband Dieter of Church Point; his brothers, Morris Olivier and companion Gerry Fontenot of Lafayette, La., Irby Olivier and wife Mary and Roy Olivier and wife Gloria of Eunice, La. and Viel Olivier and wife Linda of Church Point; his sisters,Isabelle Cormier and husband Lyman of Hessmer, La., Lee Etta Bogard of Church Point and Bernita Briscoe and husband Kenneth of Eunice; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John B. and Alice (Labbie) Olivier; an infant sister, Elvie Olivier; a brother, Terry Olivier and a sister, Mary Ann Olivier.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 12:00 noon until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 5 and continue from 9:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Monday, February 6 and from 9:00 A.M. Tuesday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Monday by Monsignor DeBlanc.
A retired rig mechanic in the oilfield industry and married for fifty-five years to his beloved wife, nothing was more important to Mr. Olivier than his family and friends. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved to cook and garden.
