Etienne "Big
Douce" Doucet, Jr.
December 16, 1942 – May 4, 2025
Church Point, LA: Etienne "Big Douce" Doucet Jr., 82, native of Church Point, LA, peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at The Ellington of Rayne surrounded by his loved ones, after his battle with cancer.
A Memorial Service will be held at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 2:00 PM. Memorial visitation will take place at Guidry Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral mass at 2:00 PM. A Rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 1:15. Father Brian Harrington will be the celebrant of the Mass. The Rite of Committal will take place at a later date at Our Lady of Sacred Heart Cemetery, next to the church.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Edna Doucet Nelson and husband Cameron Nelson, Rafael Doucet and wife Victoria Doucet, and Johana Doucet, his five grandchildren, Nevaeh, Rafael Jr. (RJ), Emery, Bryant (BJ), and Xavier (Xay), and his beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Etienne Doucet Sr. and Edna Venable Doucet, all of his siblings, Villa (Joe) Doucet, Lelia Doucet, Vilfray Doucet, Wilbert Doucet, Letha Mae Seaux, Gladys Schexnayder, Sidney Doucet, Shirley Kidder, and his baby sister, Mary Jane Doucet.
He wore many hats navigating the roads of life — mostly as a truck driver and roughneck, but he took most pride in his role as a caring father, son, uncle, and grandfather. He will be fondly remembered as a man who always gave whatever he could, not only to the people he cared for, but to anyone in need — even when he had little to spare.
Big Douce's life was a testament to the power of humor, generosity, love, and faith. A man who celebrated life's simple pleasures. His love for football was matched by his passion for good food, a strong cup of coffee, storytelling, making others smile, good company and, of course, pretty women.
A special thank you is extended to the staff of The Ellington of Rayne and HOPE Healthcare and Hospice for their care, compassion and loving support during his final weeks of life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Etienne Doucet, Jr. to EWTN or Our Lady of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Arrangements are being handled by Guidry Funeral Home, Inc.; 219 N. Broadway, Church Point, LA (337) 684-5488.
