Church Point, LA: A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, April 26, 2024 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Errol Joseph "Slu" Comeaux, 76. Mr. Comeaux, a native of Cankton, LA and long-time resident of Church Point, died Saturday evening, March 23 at Ochsner Lafayette General Hospital in Lafayette, LA. Fr. Brian Harrington, Pastor of the Church, will conduct the Mass.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Brown Comeaux of Church Point; his daughters, Sedalise Hernandez and husband Bryant of Lafayette and Angeline Comeaux and companion Robert Miller of Church Point; his grandchildren: Simone Bailey, Giselle Hernandez and Brittany, Holden and Heidi Hendrickson; his great-grandchildren: Ainslee Breaux, Zaidee Thibodeaux and Tatum Bailey; a sister, Brenda Gray of Shriever, LA and a brother, Kermit Comeaux of Scott, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Randolph and Ira Lee McMillan Comeaux; his grandparents, Alston "Bud" McMillan and Lydia Daigle McMillan; seven siblings and an uncle.
Truly a servant of his community and one of the town's biggest cheerleaders, Slu spent much of his career working in retail General Motors parts sales for Thibodeaux Chevrolet in Church Point and Service Chevrolet in Lafayette. Slu was an Alderman for 32 years dating back to 1988, Mayor Pro-Temp from 2019-2024 and a member of the CPVFD, where he was recognized as a lifetime member after 44 years. He was an Adjutant-Sons of the Legion-for American Legion Post 225, a member of Knights of Columbus Council #2504 and served as an usher at OLSH. His greatest love was Church Point High School athletics. The statistician for Church Point Bear Football for 53 years and a member of the Church Point High School Booster Club where he had served as president; he was the biggest Bear Fan in town. Slu was also a former baseball and football coach in the Church Point Little League organization, a member and past president of the Woodmen of the World and he was a VIP for the Cerebral Palsy Telethon. He could be counted on; he will be missed.
The family would like to express their gratitude to his care team at Cancer Center of Acadiana and the staff of Acadia-St. Landry Hospital in Church Point. In lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to: INADCAREFOUNDATION : INADCure Foundation-Funding Research and Raising Awareness for INAD.
