Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 26, 2009 at St. Edward Catholic Church; Richard, La. for Elwood McGee, 88. Mr. McGee, a native of Richard and long-time resident of New Iberia, La., died on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at his ranch near Church Point. Father Dan Edwards will conduct the services with interment following in the St. Edward Cemetery; Richard, La.
Survivors include a son, Gregory Elwood McGee and his wife Maria of Buellton, Ca.; a daughter, Glenda Roy and husband Ray of Baton Rouge, La.; two brothers, Donald Dean McGee and wife Sylvia and Ray McGee and wife Myrtle-all of Richard; six grandchildren: Stuart Roy of Las Vegas, Nev., Malea Roy Bourg of Baton Rouge, Remie Roy and wife Windy of Fort Mill, S.C. and Gabrielle, Gregory and Geremy McGee-all of Buellton, Ca. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Daigle McGee; his parents, Remie, Sr. and Violet Godeaux McGee; his sister, Margie M. Francois and her husband, Oran Francois.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 25 and continue from 9:00 A.M. Monday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Sunday by Deacon Jim Cormier.
After managing Beall's Department store in New Iberia for 25 years, Mr. McGee had retired but continued as a businessman there and owned and operated Twin Magnolia Ranch near Church Point, where he bred and raised cattle.
