Church Point, LA: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Ella Belle Cormier, 89, the former Ella Belle Guidry. Mrs. Cormier, a native and long-time resident of Church Point, passed away Friday evening, June 4 at Acadia-St. Landry Guest Home in Church Point. Reverend Mitchell Guidry, her grandnephew, will be the celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the committal services in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery adjacent to the church. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Monday, June 7 and continue from 9:00 AM until the time of services on Tuesday. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 7:00 PM Monday by Reverend Guidry.
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved, Ella Belle Guidry Cormier. Born to Elie and Agatha Guidry on April 3, 1932; she and her husband, Melvin, owned and operated both the Joy Theater and Cormier's Grocery in Church Point for many years. To know her was to love her and she will be greatly missed.
Survivors include one son, Willie "LuLu" Cormier and wife Deborah of Church Point; two sisters, Yvonne G. Higginbotham and Joyce G. Thibodeaux; one brother, Leo Guidry; seven grandchildren, together with their spouses, Joey Cormier, Kevin Cormier, Alysa Cormier Thibodeaux, Jenny Cormier, Jeffrey Cormier, David Cormier and Sarah Cormier; 25 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Twila Lavergne Cormier and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elie and Agatha Higginbotham Guidry; her husband, Melvin L. Cormier; one son, James "Deacon Jim" Cormier; three brothers, Leroy Guidry, Huey Guidry, and Herman Guidry; three sisters, Leota G. Thibodeaux, Louise G. Thibodeaux, and Dorothy G. Brasseaux and one great-grandchild, Loren E. Cormier. Personal condolences may be sent to the family at
