Obituary

Church Point, LA: Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 7, 2018 in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Ella Mae Elkins Doucet, who passed away November 4, 2018 at her daughter's home. Interment will be in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery. The Reverend Monsignor Jeff Deblanc, Pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, will officiate services. Ella Mae was born on March 5, 1928 in Church Point, LA. In 1946 she married the late John Zachary Doucet and they later moved to Port Sulphur, LA in 1953 only to return to Church Point, LA in 1959. Left to cherish her memories are 4 children: Margaret (Archie) Bellard, Rodney (Carleen) Doucet, Bryant (Sheila) Doucet and Rhonda Doucet-all of Church Point, LA.; Son-in-Law, Edmond Duthile of Crowley; a dear friend, Darlene LeBlanc of Church Point; four sisters, Bertha Lyons and Sarah Duplechin of Baton Rouge, LA, Eldean Cormier of Mansura, LA., and Ethel Lee Touchet of Holden, LA; 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Zachary Doucet; her parents, the former Alice Duplechin & "Johnny" Elkins; one daughter, Judy Doucet Duthile; five brothers, Nolton, Wallace, Austin, Harold and Darold and two sisters, Beatrice Elkins Boudreaux and Adeline Elkins Melancon. Ella Mae was a resident of Church Point, LA for most of her life and worked as a cafeteria worker at Church Point Elementary and High School. To her, it was not a job, it was an opportunity to feed so many children and see the smiles on their faces. She was an avid seamstress and her cooking and baking skills were unbeatable. Her generosity and love have impacted so many lives, as she never met a stranger. Her home was an "open door" where you never left without being offered food, coffee, and dessert. Her greatest joy was hosting Sunday dinners with all of her family present. She will always be remembered as a tough, confident hard-working lady, yet humble and giving soul who comforted, loved and inspired others to believe in themselves. All this done with very modest means. Her family are comforted knowing she is at peace with God. The family request that visitation be held November 7, 2018 at the church from 10:00 AM until time of services. A rosary will be prayed by Monsignor DeBlanc at 10:30 AM at the church .
