Obituary

Church Point, LA:       A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 9 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Mrs. Elizabeth Lee Mizzi Bellard, "Betty", who passed away at 10:57 am January 6 at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital. Msgr. Jefferson DeBlanc and Fr. Brian Harrington will be the con-celebrants of the Mass. Entombment will take place at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum, to be immediately followed by a Celebration of Life at Café Maison (218 N. Main Street, Church Point, La).

Born in Opelousas, Louisiana, Betty moved to Church Point in 1954 when she married Dr. Ward M. Bellard. Here they settled down to raise their family and open up his medical practice, which she ran and managed until their mutual retirement in 2006. Betty could often be found in church every Saturday afternoon, dining out with friends and family, or attending any Church Point High School sporting event given the opportunity. An avid sports fan her entire life, she spent much of her downtime watching and cheering on her favorite professional and collegiate teams and players. Betty never met a stranger, nor did she mince her words. She will always be remembered by her loved ones for her quick wit, sharp tongue, undying faith in God, and generous and loving nature.

She is survived by two sons, Lee Ward Bellard and Paul Bellard and wife Melanie, all of Church Point; a daughter, Anne Moss and husband Robert (Bob) of Kingwood, TX; five granddaughters: Erin Baker and husband Billy, Taylor Bellard, Allison Colomb and husband Sam, Elizabeth (Ellie) Slayton and husband Sam and Stacie Moss and fiancé Tucker Seals; six great-grandchildren (Jack, Jhett, Jules, Caden, Emmitt, and Cecilia) and one great-granddaughter on the way, due to arrive in June. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Ward M. Bellard; her parents, Lee and Mary Celesta Mizzi; her sister, Maude Marie Williams and her brother, Rupert Mizzi.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 9 from10:00 am to 2:00 pm with a rosary at 1:00 pm. Pallbearers will be Lee Ward Bellard, Robert (Bob) Moss, Billy Baker II, Clinton Trahant, Reggie Doucet, Lucas Colligan, Ricky Beachamp and Will Favre. Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Neil Williams and Tommy Williams. Personal condolences may be sent to the Bellard family at www.guidryfuneralhome.com. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her in-home caregivers as well as the staff at Acadia-St Landry Hospital (particularly Gwen Leger) for the wonderful care she received.
