Church Point, LA: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Edgar David Daigle, 86. Mr. Daigle, a native and lifetime resident of Church Point, passed away Thursday morning, January 20 at Opelousas General Hospital, Opelousas, LA. Rev. Father Père Rozas, parochial vicar of the church, will be the celebrant of the Mass and entombment will be in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum adjacent to the church.
He is survived by his wife, Florine Wimberley Daigle of Church Point; a son, Jeff Daigle and wife Rhonda of Church Point; three daughters: Jan Alleman and husband Don of Rayne, LA and Sylvia Doucet and husband Gary and Tricia Lyons and husband David-all of Church Point; seven grandchildren: Meghan Alleman Hessler, Mark Alleman, Andrea Doucet Johnson, Justin Doucet, Jeff Michael Daigle, Kyle and Lindsey Lyons and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward "Jack" Daigle and Edith David Daigle; an infant brother, Edward Everett Daigle, Jr.; his sisters: Margaret Wanda Daigle, Patricia McNeely and Geneva Scanlan and two brothers-in-law, Charles Howard "Mac" McNeely and Michael "Mickey" Scanlan.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM on Friday, January 21 and continue from 9:00 AM Saturday until the time of services. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 7:00 PM Friday by Deacon Byrne Winn. Pallbearers will be Mark Alleman, Justin Doucet, Kyle Lyons, Jeff Michael Daigle, Jarreytt Johnson and Eric Hessler. A generous, family-oriented member of one of the prominent enterprising families of Church Point, Mr. Daigle owned Daigle Department Store and was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 2504 for a number of years. Once a captain in the U.S. Air Force, he will be honored with a Flag Presentation Ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Mother of Peace School, Church Point. Guidry Funeral Home, 219 N. Broadway St., Church Point, LA is in charge of final arrangements.
