Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 4, 2017 at St. Edward Catholic Church in Richard for Mr. Donnel 'Dean' McGee, 93, who passed away on Wednesday, August 2 at 3:45 AM at Lafayette General Medical Center. Fr. Wayne Duet, Pastor of St. Edward Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Mass and burial will take place in St. Edward Cemetery adjacent to the church.
Dean, a resident of Richard, Louisiana was the son of the late Remie McGee, Sr. and the former Violet Godeaux.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Sylvia B. McGee of Richard; three daughters, Caroline McGee and husband Allan Graubard of New York City, NY, Donna McGee Onebane of New Orleans, LA and Elizabeth Smith of Eunice, LA; two sons, Joey McGee of Richard and Gary McGee of Lafayette, LA; twelve grandchildren, Bo Matkowsky, Eve Onebane Russel, Jake Onebane, Scotty Richard, Karen Smith, Lauren McGee, Jordan McGee, Ryan McGee, Angelle Smith, Alexis Smith, Bryce McGee and Connor McGee; ten great grandchildren, Hillary Mouton, Phoebe Mouton, Charlie Russel, Dean Onebane, Bear Onebane, Harmoni Richard, Brennon Smith, Keelie Guidry, Kolten Desormeaux and Aiden Comeaux and one brother, Remie McGee, Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter Theresa McGee; a granddaughter, Angelle Smith; one sister, Margie Francois and one brother, Elwood McGee.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home on Thursday, August 3 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 and continue on Friday from 8:00 AM until the time of services. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Thursday evening in the funeral home.
A rice and crawfish farmer, Mr. McGee was an Army Air Force veteran of WWII where he earned the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, the American Theater Ribbon and the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon. As a veteran and member of the American Legion Post 225, Dean will be honored with a flag presentation ceremony at the time of services. He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, serving in many capacities. His life was devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends; all of whom loved him dearly. Mr. McGee's children and grandchildren will remember him for his courage and perseverance.
