Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 18, 2016 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for David Glen Winn, 64. Mr. Winn, a native of Church Point and currently a resident of St. Landry Parish near Opelousas, LA, died early Friday morning, April 15 at his residence. Father Mark Melancon will conduct the services with entombment immediately following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum on Highway 35 north of Church Point.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Prudhomme Winn of Opelousas; a son, Christopher Scott and wife Alexis of Opelousas; three daughters: Tara Khanna and husband Alok of Houston, TX, Erica Henley and husband Brian of Jacksonville, FL and April Hendricks and husband Adam of Edmond, OK; two brothers, Byrne Winn and wife Maria of Church Point and Boyd Winn and wife Cindy of Baton Rouge, LA; three sisters: Norma Santersero of Colorado Springs, CO, Gloria Pellerin of Mire, LA and Judy Young and husband Bernie of Church Point and eight grandchildren: Emily Hedrick, Aidan, Gavin and Sophie Hendricks, Priya Khanna, Cameron Henley and Sutten and Slayden Scott.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Guidry Winn and his parents, Paul and Mary Nid Matte Winn. The family requested that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 16, from 10:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 17 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Monday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held there at 6:00 P.M. Sunday by Deacon Bryne Winn. Mr. Winn, long-time manager of Fontenot and Guidry Department Store, was a past president of the Jaycees, past president of the Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a Church Point volunteer fireman. He was coach of the Pee Wee Football Chiefs for many years and filmed the Church Point Bears football games. He was honored as Grand Marshal of the Buggy Festival, was Buggy Festival King and was a Gold Medalist in mixed doubles at the State Senior Olympics. A good musician, Mr. Winn played with various Cajun bands at the Saddle Tramp Club, Prejeans and other venues. He was proudest of his grandchildren.
