Culand retired last year after over 50 years as owner operator of Culand Richard Trucking; hauling rice, soybeans and sweet potatoes throughout SWLA. Contracted by Supreme Rice Mill in Crowley for the last couple of decades, he made an impact on his fellow workers and staff. He loved being with his family, visiting with people, tending to his cows, making his rounds to his favorite spots in town, spending time outdoors, cleaning frogs and turtles, picking figs and oranges from his trees and putting up his sweet corn. "Poppy Q" picked up his great-grandsons from school and daycare on a regular basis, making sure they stopped for their favorite snacks before bringing them home. "Uncle Culand" visited his favorite nephew, Lionel, Jr., and his family several times a day and enjoyed spending time with his Daigle cousins, going to suppers, listening to Cajun music, eating at Chef Roy's and rocking under his carport, watching the comings and goings on St. Margaret Road. Able to remember names, dates, numbers and events; he recounted stories of the past to entertain the crowd. Culand will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
