Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point for Carroll Wilson Jacobs, Jr., age 87, of Knoxville, TN who passed away peacefully on January 15 after a long history of heart disease. Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc will conduct the services with interment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery adjacent to the Church.
Carroll was born in Lexington, Ky to Mettie and Carroll Jacobs, Sr. on Oct 6, 1925. He served his country proudly during WWII first as a B17 ball turret gunner. After surviving all of his missions, he trained as a pilot and returned to England to fly the B17. After the war, he received his B.A. at the University of Kentucky and played football there under a young Paul "Bear" Bryant from 1948-1950. He was also a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He married and started a family, having 2 children, Price and Beth. Many years later, working for Universal Underwriters insurance company, he met and married Julia Daigle of Church Point, Louisiana. We always said, he was either crazy or very brave as Julia had 4 children ranging from 10-17. He moved his new family to Knoxville, TN in 1971. Carroll was an avid golfer and a member of Fox Den Country Club. He played every day that he could until a knee replacement sidelined him. He was a devoted husband and loving father. He was the most positive of people, never complaining although he suffered with a bad heart for 40 years. Carroll never met a stranger. He loved to talk. Within ten minutes of meeting him you knew his whole life history and that of his wife and children. He was like the "Pied Piper". All children loved him immediately and he loved them. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Beth and brothers, John and Gene Jacobs. He is survived by his wife, Julia Daigle Jacobs; son, Price Jacobs(Vickie) of Atlanta; granddaughter, Amy of San Diego; sister, Marylou Northrop(Sam) of Jacksonville; brother, Donald (Phoebe) of Gonzales, La.; loving and grateful stepchildren, Jeanne Broussard Cauldwell(Malcolm), Michelle Broussard Rainwater(George), Mark Broussard (Lia), Andre Broussard(Lori) all of Knoxville,TN; adoring grandchildren, Woodson Criner, John Criner, Taylor Broussard, Emily Broussard and John Mark Broussard, all of Knoxville, TN and Andrew Criner of Millington, TN. and a great granddaughter, Maggie Criner.
