Church Point, LA: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Burney Young, 85. Mr. Young, a native of Chataignier, LA and a long-time resident of Church Point, passed away on Thursday afternoon, July 23 at his residence. Reverend Mitchell Guidry, pastor of Our Lady Queen of All Saints Church, will be the celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the committal services in the Monsignor Bienvenu Cemetery on Hwy 35 north of Church Point. Masks and "social distancing" are Required. He is survived by his wife, Judy Winn Young; his children, Burney "Lynn" Young, Bernadine Turner (Doug), Stephen Young, Tammy Plaisance, Melissa Guidry (Robert) and Libby Faul; his grandchildren: Blaine Burleigh, Dustin and Casey Lowrey, Lyle and Gavin Guidry, Zachary Templet, Kalynn Plaisance and Owen Brickles; his six great-grandchildren; his brothers, Eldon Young (Pam) and Onezime "Joe" Young (Judy); a half-sister, Lucy Poole and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ulysse and Lula Young; a brother, Edward Young; his half-brothers, Hilary and Ebrum Richard; a half-sister, Natalie Pepitone and a son-in-law, Ron Plaisance. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services on Saturday. A rosary will be recited at 11:30 A.M. by his brother-in-law, Deacon Bryne Winn. A U.S. Army Sergeant who served in Okinawa, Japan during the Korean War; Mr. Young worked in construction for a number of years, ultimately owning a construction company. He loved woodworking and handcrafting swings with his wife Judy, camping and riding motorcycles, was an auctioneer and a proud member of the VFW for many years and loved his family and grandchildren most of all. The family cannot thank his caregiver Cheryl enough for her kindness and compassion. She went above and beyond. They also want to thank Hospice of Acadiana, nurses Jamie and Jennifer and Dr. Mike Williams. He will be sorely missed by his best friend, Scotty. Guidry Funeral Home, 219 N. Broadway St., Church Point, LA is in charge of final arrangements.
