Church Point, LA:         A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 P.M. Thursday, June 18, 2020 at the Church of the Assumption in Mire, La for Bessie "Miss B" Smith, 90, the former Bessie Lee Soileau. Mrs. Smith, a long-time resident of rural Acadia Parish near Higginbotham, passed away on Sunday, June 14 at The Blake of Lafayette, LA. Father Michael J. Arnaud will be the celebrant of the Mass and Deacon Bryne Winn will conduct the committal services in the St. Edmund Cemetery in Branch, LA.
She is survived by two sons, Terry Smith and wife Glenda of Branch and Bruce Smith and wife Janis of Jacksonville, FL; her daughters, Cynthia Smith Wadlington and husband Chris of Sunset, LA and Glenda Fontenot and husband Benny of Acworth, GA; a brother, Jessie Soileau and wife Suzanne of Opelousas, LA; ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sosthene Smith; her parents, Jessie and Francis Sonnier Soileau and two brothers. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 17 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and continue on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday by Deacon Wayne Chapman. Pallbearers will be Cory, Josh and Ethan Smith; Duke, Tony and Jude Fontenot. Honorary pallbearers will be Clay Fontenot and Cody Guilbeau. "Miss B", a volunteer at the St. Joseph House of Care in Church Point for a number of years, was truly loved and will be sadly missed by her extended family and friends. The family wishes to thank her caregivers at Courtyard Manor in Carencro, LA and The Blake of Lafayette. Guidry Funeral Home, 219 N. Broadway St., Church Point, LA is in charge of final arrangements.
