Church Point, LA: A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, June 4, 2026 at Guidry Funeral Home in Church Point, LA for Barbara E. Matte, 78, the former Barbara Elkins. Mrs. Matte, a native of Church Point, died Saturday afternoon, May 30 at her daughter’s home in East Baton Rouge Parish. Visitation will be held at Guidry Funeral Home from 10:00 AM Thursday until the time of the Service. A Rosary will be recited at 12:30 PM by Deacon Byrne Winn who will also conduct the Service. Interment will immediately follow in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Hwy 35.

Survivors include her daughter, Pamela Matte Richard and husband Michael Todd Richard, Sr. of Baton Rouge, LA; her grandchildren: Michael Todd Richard, Jr. and wife Katelyn and Callie, Colin and Seth Richard-all of Baton Rouge; her sisters, Darlene Lalonde of Church Point and Penny Guidroz and husband Jay of Opelousas, LA and her brothers, Donald “Cleo” Elkins and wife Ursula of Breaux Bridge, LA and Terry Elkins of Church Point. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Irby and Theresa Bourque Elkins; her husband, Leander Matte and her brothers, Herman, Charles and Brent Elkins.

A devout and kind Christian person, Mrs. Matte was a homemaker in her own home for a number of years. A loving wife, mother and grandmother; she was truly loved and will be missed by her extended family and all who knew her.
