Obituary

Church Point, La. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, La. for Annie Bernard D'Amores, 90. Mrs. D'Amores, a native and long-time resident of Church Point, passed away peacefully at 1:30 A.M Sunday, May 5 one day before her ninety-first birthday at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, La. Visitation will begin at 9 A.M. on Wednesday May 8, 2013 and continue until time of services. Interment will be in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery adjacent to the Church immediately after services.
Mrs. D'Amores was born in Arnaudville, Louisiana, moved to Rayne after her parents Leonce and Rosa (Miller) Bernard died and was raised by her sister, Mary Bernard Comeaux. She married a handsome Italian man from Church Point named Louis D'Amores and continued to live in Rayne ,working as a sales clerk at Mervine Kahn Department Store as her husband served in WWII. After the war, they moved to Church Point, where they owned and operated the Joy Theater on Main Street. Eventually closing the theater, Annie concentrated on caring for her elderly father-in-law and her children, Barry Earnest and Joan Marie D'Amores. Camping became the family hobby and before her husband's death in 1988, they visited all 50 states and Canada in their camper. Annie was known for her outgoing personality, selflessness, generosity and strong faith in God. In 1995, Annie moved to Lafayette to be closer to family, continued to visit her friends in Church Point and also made new friends in the "Hub City". She became an active member of several clubs. She was very active and adored by all who met her.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan D'Amores Watts and husband "Bubba"; a daughter-in-law, Linda Guidry D'Amores; her grandchildren, Tish D. Billeaudeau and Morgan D. Spinosa and her great-grandchildren, Luis Billeaudeau, Marty Dampier, Storie Dampier and Beau Billeaudeau. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; her husband, Louis E. D'Amores; her son, Barry E. D'Amores and a grandson, Marty D'Amores.
