Funeral services will be held for Anita at 12:00 noon on Saturday at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point with Monsignor Curtis Mallet celebrating the Mass and performing burial services in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum adjacent to the church. Pallbearers will be Pierre Gamble, Dr. David Guidry, Scott and Matthew Guidry and Jim and Greg Daigle. In accordance with CDC Guidelines, the family requests that masks be worn throughout the services. Anita was born on October 11, 1919. Her parents were Ernestine Daigle Guidry and Pierre Guidry, both descendants of pioneer families in Church Point. Anita was delivered by her grandmother, Hermina Daigle Guidry, who was the local midwife. She lived in Church Point for 96 years (residing for 73 of those years in the house she moved into as a young bride) until she moved to Camelot Assisted Living in Broussard, LA where she resided until her death. She is survived by 2 sons: Michael Guidry (Judy) of Murfreesboro, TN and Peter Guidry (Carrie) of Lafayette, LA. She is also survived by 3 daughters: Rebecca Daigle, Paula Gamble (James) of Lafayette and Susan Fontenot (Jim) of Chickamauga, GA. She was beloved "Mama Nita" to 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Anita was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Owen Guidry and her 7 siblings: 2 brothers, Herman Guidry and Leroy Guidry and 5 sisters: Lima Harmon, Myrtle Baquet, Grace Glover, Angela Guidry, and Lorelei Stroble. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law Kenneth Daigle. Anita was known for her culinary skills and her love of her hometown and its history. In 1973, she compiled the book La Pointe de l'Église to help celebrate the centennial of the town. She was also the author of From Mama to Me Acadian Cajun Recipes . Both of these books are listed in the Library of Congress. A devout Catholic, she was a charter member of the OLSH Catholic Daughters of America and a Eucharistic Minister and volunteer at Acadia-St. Landry Guest Home for many years. She had many talents including gardening, sewing, and painting. She also had a great love for travel, and traveled extensively with both her husband Owen, and her children. Anita marked her 100th birthday last October in a joyous celebration surrounded by four generations of her large family. She was a person of strong character and morals, and embraced whatever life handed her. To all who knew her she represented the ultimate example of a life well lived, and ended that life without fear of death. The Guidry family would like to extend its greatest appreciation to the Staff and Administration of Camelot Assisted Living of Broussard for the excellent care and love she received during her years as a resident. They would also like to extend appreciation and thanks to all of Anita's caregivers who over the last few years helped to extend and enrich her life.
