Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Guidry Funeral Home in Church Point, La. for Mrs. Alvin Savoie, 69, the former Mary Lee Winn. Mrs. Savoie, a native of Bristol, La. and long-time resident of Sunset, La., passed away peacefully at 8:00 A.M. Saturday, November 24 while visiting family in Buffalo, Tex. Brother Gary Gaspard will conduct the services with interment following in the First Baptist Church Cemetery on Highway 35 north of Church Point.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin Savoie of Sunset, La.; her children, Rachael Rumbo and husband Don of Arlington, Tex., Cindy Weaver and husband Bill of Opelousas, La., Gloria Menard and husband Ricky of Garland, Tex. and Alvin "A.J." Savoie, Jr. of Sunset; a brother, Peter Winn of Sunset; her sisters, Barbara Harris of Sunset and Cora Smith and husband Frank of Crowley, La.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Bridget Savoie Thibodeaux; her sisters, Iva Dunlap and Diane Perez and a brother, Huey Winn.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 3:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 28 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Thursday until time of services.
"Full of love, kindness and pure joy, family and faith were Mary's passion and delight. She welcomed family and friends at a moment's notice and was a mother to everyone who entered her home. Mary was an active member of Unity Baptist Church and taught the women's Sunday School class. In lieu of flowers, the family will take donations at 1112 Hwy 356; Sunset, La. 70584 to support her Sunday School classes' missionary in Indonesia."
