Church Point, La. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Church Point for Mrs. Alton "Tony" (Lucille) Huckaby, 65, the former Lucille Barousse. Mrs. Huckaby, a native of and long-time resident of Church Point, died at 4:25 P.M. Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Opelousas General Hospital; Opelousas, La. Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc will conduct the services with interment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery; Highway 35, Church Point, La.
Survivors include her husband, Alton "Tony" Huckaby of Church Point; a daughter, Dawn R. Cole, husband Bill and granddaughter Kayla of Smithfield, R.I.; two brothers, Harold Barousse and wife Marie of Lincoln, Ca. and Charles Barousse and wife Kay of Church Point; four sisters: Nelda Thibodeaux of Victoria, Tex., Audrey Aldridge of Mandeville, La. and Betty June Miller and husband Louis and Louise Briscoe and husband Lincoln "Whitey" all of Church Point as well as a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jean and Bessie Higginbotham Barousse; two brothers, John L. "Blue" Barousse and Lt. Col. Roy A. Barousse, USAF (Ret.) and a sister, Hattie Cummings.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 5:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 13, from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 P.M. on Friday, May 14 and from 8:00 A.M. Saturday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday by Monsignor DeBlanc.
Pallbearers will be Fred Aldridge. Mitch Briscoe, Gerard Thibodeaux, Rusty Barousse, Karl Trahan, Craig Neal Miller II, Barry Huckaby and Paul Siffert. Honorary pallbearers will be John Aldridge, Peter Miller and Mark Briscoe. All are Mrs. Huckaby's nephews.
A very dedicated nurse, Mrs. Huckaby retired after twenty-six years of service at Acadia-St. Landry Guest Home in Church Point. She was a member of the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Daughters, the Hilda Daigle rosary group and a Life Member of The American Legion Post 225 Auxiliary and the VFW Post 9903 Auxiliary.
