Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 29, 2008 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church; Church Point for Alma Tweedel Bourgeois, 86, the former Alma Tweedel Joubert, who died at 1:00 P.M. Friday, September 26, 2008 at American Legion Hospital; Crowley, La. Born and reared in Lewisburg, La.; she was a resident of Church Point for most of her life. Father Mitchell Guidry will conduct the services with interment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery; Highway 35, Church Point.
Survivors include her husband, Warren Bourgeois of Church Point; a son, William "Billy" Joubert of Church Point; three daughters: Belinda Joubert Higginbotham and husband Rufus of Church Point, Betty Joubert of Nabb, Indiana and Barbara Joubert Colby and husband Glenn of Fullerton, Ca.; two sisters: Ethel Tweedel of Lewisburg and Rena Tweedel Gutierrez and husband Louis of Lake Wales, Fla.; two brothers: James Tweedel and wife Louise of Stuart, Okla. and John "Butch" Tweedel and wife Linda of Crowley as well as a sister-in-law, Fabiola Tweedel of Lewisburg. Mrs. Bourgeois is also survived by five grandchildren, six step grandchildren and three step great- grandchildren.
"Ms. Alma" was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Curley Joubert; her parents, Joseph and Eve Bourque Tweedel; three brothers: Horace, Russell and Steven Tweedel; a sister, Mary Tweedel Brown and a step-son, Lemuel Bourgeois.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 11:00 A.M until 10:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 28 and continue from 8:00 A.M. until the time of the services on Monday. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Sunday by Father Guidry.
A talented seamstress, Mrs. Bourgeois was employed by Fontenot and Guidry Dept. Store for over 30 years. As a dedicated volunteer and officer; she belonged to the American Legion Post 225 and VFW Post 9903 Auxiliaries, was a member the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. In 2005-2006, she reigned as Buggy Festival Queen. "Ms. Alma" will be sadly missed by Erica, Eve and the family, friends and associates who were touched by "Grams".
