Church Point, LA: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Mr. Albert "Roy" Wimberley, 80, who passed away at 1:07 PM Wednesday, March 17 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, LA. Rev. Patrick S. Broussard, pastor of the church, will be the celebrant of the Mass with entombment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum on Hwy 35.
Roy, a life-long resident of Church Point, was the son of the late Joseph Lee Wimberley and the former Mary Lilly Richard. A graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana, Roy started work in manufacturing with Firestone and Standard Fittings. He administered Community Action agencies in Ville Platte, LA and Lafayette, was the owner of Oilfield Anchor Services of Louisiana and the founder of Medical Dispatch, Inc. in Church Point. A sportsman, he enjoyed hunting, maintaining fish, raising exotic deer that he liked to show to his grandchildren and hosted many family parties at his camp and fishing pond. He traveled the world and actively supported many candidates for state office.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Geraldine Joubert Wimberley; two daughters, Robyn Wimberley Blackwell and husband Richard of Lafayette and Holly Wimberley Husband and her husband Will of Abbeville, LA; one son, David Douglas Wimberley and wife Anita of Church Point; two step-sons, Shawn Sullivan and wife Michelle of Dacono, CO and Wade Sullivan of Church Point; three sisters, Florine Daigle and husband Edgar of Church Point, Gertrude Broach of Church Point, and Linda Wimberley Champion and husband Nick of Baton Rouge; four brothers, Charles Wimberley and wife Lola of Mandeville, LA, Chester Wimberley and wife Doreen of Church Point, Joseph Lee Wimberley, Jr. and wife Hope of Church Point and Cedric "Rick" Wimberley and wife Saundra of Youngsville, LA; five grandchildren, seven step grandchildren and the mother of his children, Kathryn Thompson Wimberley. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Joseph Huey Wimberley and Bernard Wimberley.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home on Friday, March 19 from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM and continue on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of funeral services. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home Friday evening at 7:00 PM by Deacon Doug Wimberley. Personal condolences may be sent to the Wimberley family at www.guidryfuneralhome.com .
